Nairobi Snake Park
Tour Overview
Opened in January 1961, the Nairobi Snake Park is a distinct herpetology attraction that works to promote and preserve the snakes and reptiles found in Kenya. The snake displays were initially located at the Nairobi National Museum entrance. Later, the museum trustees acquired land in front of the museum and along the Nairobi River, now serving as a botanical garden and site for live snake exhibits.
The Nairobi Snake Park, now part of the Wilber Safari experience, is not only a curious public attraction but also provides a peaceful setting to appreciate Kenya’s unique urban-natural beauty. Alongside snake displays, Wilber Safari visitors can explore exhibits featuring marine and freshwater fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, small mammals, and various invertebrates. Species include the Mombasa train millipede, freshwater prawn, giant snail, crayfish, baboon spider, and more.
Beyond public displays, the conservation park, under the Wilber Safari umbrella, leads efforts to protect and preserve creatures through initiatives like a rescue and rehabilitation program for abandoned or illegally collected reptiles. Community-based programs encompass education on aquarium fish and reptiles, snake removal from homes, snake bite prevention education, and snake identification services. Explore the Wilber Safari experience to learn more about the Nairobi Snake Park’s conservation efforts and diverse wildlife displays
